Three Books. One Descent.

Daphne Theron carries the Minotaur, nearly whole, in her blood — and the Academy that took her in has been setting the board since before she arrived. Follow the series in order, from the living labyrinth to the far-shore Trials to the door no maker ever built.

Ariadne's Thread by Niko Crane

Book One

Ariadne's Thread

What price would you pay to keep your humanity?

For twenty-three years Daphne has carried a heat that climbs her spine when she's cornered — a sickness her grandmother never named. Then she breaks a man's chest in a Piraeus alley and meets the woman who knows what lives in her blood. The island shouldn't exist. The school shouldn't be possible. But her fragment of myth isn't a fragment at all — and deep beneath the Academy, the original labyrinth is still alive, and still waiting.

The Golden Fleece by Niko Crane

Book Two

The Golden Fleece

In the arena where gods fall, only monsters rise.

Once a generation the artifacts wake to one another, and the charter reads again. The Thread has surfaced — so the Houses are called to the Trials for the Fleece, kept past the charts on a far shore under a serpent that does not sleep. No single heir has ever been thought enough, so every House sends its best, together and against one another. Daphne sees the truth the others miss: the heirs aren't players. They're pieces. And the quest is also the exam.

The Bag of Winds by Niko Crane

Book Three

The Bag of Winds

The thing she was sent to find is the only thing that can free her.

Daphne comes home with the Fleece across her shoulders — and no bell rings. She has not returned a student but a recovered instrument, quartered in a warded cell, logged and watched, a spool wound to its purpose and set back in the workshop drawer. Yet her thread leans toward a heading on no chart: a door off the board the Academy refuses to believe exists. To reach it she must find the Bag of Winds — and learn the lock from the wrong side.

An Island That Isn't on Any Map

The myths didn't end. They went to school.

🏛️

The Academy

A hidden institution tucked into a cliff-faced island in the southern Aegean — the kind of place you only find if you were always going to find it. Stone halls that remember older names. Libraries that argue back.

Inherited Gifts

The students didn't earn their abilities — they inherited them, diluted and unpredictable, through bloodlines wound tight with myth. A gift for finding things. A voice that compels. Fire that will not quite obey. The Academy exists to teach them what to do with it.

🌿

The Artifacts

The mythological record is the curriculum. The Golden Fleece, Ariadne's Thread, the Bag of Winds — the artifacts are real, and they are not in a museum. Each year, a cohort earns the right to try to bring one back.

"The old world didn't disappear when people stopped believing in it. It simply found somewhere quieter to exist — and put up a gate."

Niko Crane, author

Niko Crane

Niko Crane writes dark fantasy rooted in the mythology of the ancient Mediterranean — stories that treat the old myths not as decoration but as engine. The Aegean Academy Series is his debut fiction project.

The first three books are available now: Ariadne's Thread, The Golden Fleece, and The Bag of Winds — a descent that begins in a labyrinth that hasn't forgotten what it was built to hold and follows a student who carries more than a fragment of myth in her blood.

Release news and notes from the Academy will be posted here as the series continues to make its way into the world.
